Walter Butler Shipbuilders, Inc was founded by Walter Butler in 1942 to build ships for World War 2.

The Superior, WI and Duluth, MN shipyard closed in August 1945, as all war contacts ended and there was a surplus of ships at the end of the war.

In 1950 the Superior shipyard site became the Enbridge's Ogdensburg Pier that serves the inland Enbridge's Superior Terminal.
